About the Workshops

Restorative Experiences for Stressed or Disconnected Teams

How does Expressive Writing and reflection support teams? When people feel burned out or unseen, their creativity and collaboration suffers. Writing to Reconnect™ workshops give teams a pause from the noise—a chance to process emotion, rebuild empathy, and rediscover what matters most.

Guided by award-winning essayist and educator Christine Wolf, these tailored, interactive sessions use expressive writing techniques proven to reduce stress, restore focus, and deepen human connection. Grounded in the pioneering research of Dr. James Pennebaker and other psychologists, the Writing to Reconnect™ sessions help participants translate emotion into language—turning overwhelm into clarity.

Objectives and Desired Outcomes:

  • Renewed emotional balance and focus

  • Stronger communication and empathy within teams

  • Practical self-care and reflection tools for ongoing resilience

  • A sense of belonging and shared purpose

Writing to Reconnect™ workshops focus on reducing stress-driven interactions and increasing appreciation across levels. Participants will:

  • Learn to regulate stress and deepen emotional awareness using practical, evidence-based writing tools.

  • Build empathy and self-compassion, which naturally improve communication and morale.

  • Gain techniques for expressing gratitude and appreciation more authentically.

  • Develop greater trust and psychological safety within the team.

  • Leave with personalized prompts for continued reflection and growth.

How Writing to Reconnect™ Fosters a Care-Forward Culture
Many teams try to “fix communication” without first addressing personal burnout. These workshops reverse that approach.

In these courses, Christine informs participants that, rather than focusing on improving interactions, we’ll begin by nurturing ourselves. When we feel seen, grounded, and unburdened, our capacity for humanity, patience, and care expands naturally.

Through guided writing exercises and reflection, participants will:

  • Safely release internal tension that fuels conflict

  • Reconnect with their inner sense of meaning and purpose

  • Lower reactivity and rediscover compassion — both for themselves and others.

  • Strengthen appreciation practices that reinforce care-forward habits across the organization.

How It Works
The Writing-to-Reconnect™ Framework

Christine guides participants through three structured phases that blend mindfulness, neuroscience, and storytelling craft:

  1. Settle — Simple grounding and breathing exercises to calm the nervous system and foster psychological safety.

  2. Write — Guided prompts encourage reflection and release; no professional writing skills or sharing required.

  3. Reconnect — Gentle reflection and (optional) discussion to integrate insights, strengthen perspective, and reinforce connection.

Every step is trauma-informed and inclusive, ensuring participants feel supported regardless of background or experience.

Why This Works

Because Mental Health Care Isn’t Equally Accessible

Access to professional mental-health support remains uneven—particularly among communities of color, where cost, cultural stigma, and limited representation often create barriers. Writing to Reconnect™ workshops offer an inclusive, evidence-based practice that anyone can use, anytime, anywhere.

The Science Behind Expressive Writing:

Decades of research by social psychologist Dr. James Pennebaker and colleagues show that Expressive Writing produces measurable improvements in physical, emotional, and interpersonal health.

  • Expressive Writing improves immune function, focus, and mood (Pennebaker & Smyth, 2016).

  • Regular reflective writing lowers stress and fosters empathy (Burton & King, 2008; Lepore & Smyth, 2002).

  • Organizations that prioritize reflection report greater employee engagement and retention (Di Stefano et al., 2016; Kudesia, 2019).

This isn’t a lecture—it’s an experience that re-energizes individuals and transforms team culture from the inside out.

Testimonials

“I attended your workshop at the Roger's Park Library last week. It was transformative. I feel so authentic when I'm in a room of people who write or who just want to move towards something better and higher. I was blown away by the service you do for others in teaching this and making it accessible to others.”

”I am excited to share the information you shared today with friends of mine who I know are also struggling. Thank you for your time, vulnerability, and knowledge. This was incredible.”

“I enjoyed working on the prompts and hearing about the research. I think Christine was very warm and made me feel secure/safe in writing about tough things. I would take this class again.”

”I loved the presentation, the science, the prompts, the writing, and the way you mirrored back everyone's shares.”

”I appreciated the structured environment to support me and "force" me to face hard stuff in a useful way. I wrote my college thesis in my rhetoric class on journaling, and Dr. Pennebaker was my only source -- so glad this is catching on!”

”I love your warm presence, your investment in our using this tool of expressive writing to great benefit. I appreciated the opportunity to explore myself in depth.”

“You were an incredible host/speaker/educator in every way. Thank you so much for all your hard work, talent and vulnerability with this terrific presentation!”

“Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate you, your workshops, resources and writings. This was exactly what I needed. Thank you for being a great asset for us. This is a good start for myself and for others. Self healing is essential. The workshop you provided is a necessity for me in 2025.”

“I found a way to understand and release some very trapped feelings that were taking a mental and physical toll. As a writer, it would seem natural that I would have considered doing this, but I hadn't, for whatever reason. The workshop gave me the framework, tools, and maybe permission to let some stuff go, and it's been amazing.”

“Meeting you today and learning from you in your workshop feels serendipitous; I'd go as far as saying it feels like it was meant to be. Thank you so much for offering such a meaningful workshop and for being vulnerable yourself in teaching Expressive Writing. The method resonated deeply with me and I look forward to using it going forward. It was hard, but also validating, to hear you read your expressive writing piece. It was healing in itself to hear your piece, and it was evident that you have grown (healed?) into someone who knows herself and her values well, and respects her boundaries. I know it is a tough road to walk and get to the other side of (if we ever do).”

“Lots of useful information. Anyone can do Expressive Writing.”

“I believe her workshop can help others who are internally suffering.”

“Christine is a wise and caring instructor. She creates a truly warm space while also imparting and sharing her knowledge and experience as a gifted writer.”

“Everything was helpful. I can relate to Christine, and her workshop has inspired me to take action. I've been struggling my whole life. Healing through writing is definitely what I need. I've been struggling with CPTSD, major grief and loss, traumatic brain injury, partial memory loss, and the after-effects of COVID. This workshop was very beneficial.”

“I appreciated the Christine’s encouragement, lack of pressure, and warm presence.”

“Enlightening and beneficial.”

“Very beneficial to myself and to society and community.”

“This tool is one I can utilize both for personal development and in my writing.”

“This tool removes the pressure around perfectionism and structure and, instead, encourages curiosity about emotionally challenging subject matter.”
